Hair Talk with Lana - This Seasons Colors

Summer is winding down and fall is creeping upon us. The end of summer can torture hair and its color, fading rich tones and washing out high lights. Rich colors with depth will take over hair color for fall. Highlights will be more natural and not so washed out. You will see a lot of caramel, coppers, gold, and warmer colors will brighten summers faded color. The transition of color from summer to fall will be seen with more tone-on-tone color. Fall is a big season for reds, and chocolate browns, walnut and, of course, mahogany. So, don't be afraid of warmth for this fall season. The Kerastase Reflection line will help to transform the hair helping to keep the color radiant.

Another way to refresh old tired looking hair is by losing some length and adding soft flattering layers. Kérastase Volume Active does a great job in adding volume back into the hair, and the Volume Active line helps to hold the hair in place.

Remember the right shampoo and conditioners and treatments prep your hair and keep it healthy and vibrant looking long after season is over. Kérastase shampoo is a great refresher for tired hair.

Happy Styling!

Deep Tissue or Swedish Style:
Which Massage Is Right For You?

It's wonderful that so many spas today offer a variety of massage styles. But so many choices might leave you wondering which one works best for your needs. The very best thing you can do is to consult your massage therapist personally to help you decide. You can book a regular Swedish-style massage (the most common type given) and take some time while you're on the table to discuss your needs and options with the therapist. That way, they have a much better idea of the pressure you respond best to and the degree of tightness and depth of knots you have. A plan can then be formulated as to what type, and how often, you should get a massage to achieve a well and ache-free state.

The most common question we are asked here at The Spa is what the difference is between our Signature Massage (which is based on Swedish Massage Therapy) and a Deep Tissue Massage. Here are some key points to help you understand these two choices better:

Swedish Massage
This is the most common type of massage in the United States. Massage oil is applied and therapists use long smooth strokes, kneading, and circular movements on top most layers of muscle. It can be very gentle and relaxing. The degree of pressure can vary quite a bit between Massage Therapists, so be sure to let them know what kind of pressure you want either before or during the massage. This is an excellent choice if you have never had a massage before.

Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. The Massage Therapist uses slower strokes or friction techniques across the grain of the muscle.

Deep tissue massage is used for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury. People often feel sore for one to two days after deep tissue massage. It's not considered "relaxing," but for many it is their favorite - especially for those who have chronically tight muscles and are much less affected by regular massage techniques and strokes. It is also important to note that one session of this type of massage might well not be enough to alleviate all your symptoms. Work with your massage therapist to help you better understand what you can do daily to improve the muscle condition and to schedule the appropriate number of massages needed to help you through.
